Belarus is a less recognized country that was once part of the powerful Soviet Union.  To this date, Belarus has not embraced free and open relations with western countries.  The country's close ties and dependence on Russia has greatly influenced its approach to democracy.  Although claiming to have free and open elections, the ruling party has been in control since the country became independent back in the early 1990's.  Because 80% of all major industry and services are controlled or owned by the government with the same percent of the workers employed for or depending on the government.

Although their propaganda states that they are a religious nation, the churches are closely monitored by the government.  Due to this we have maintained a low profile in the country.  Even with this approach, our work is seeing great results.  We partner with a church planting group that has launched 10 new churches in the past seven years.  We also sponsor training events for the church leaders in this innovative network and over 20 churches benefit from the training.  It's exciting to see how God's Kingdom can grow, even in a country that provides difficult obstacles to its growth.

The people in Belarus are wonderful and loving people and their desire to learn more about Jesus is uplifting.  The Gospel of Christ is spreading there as it was back in Paul's days.  And the aid and support that West Cobb Church provides has been able to assist in making this happen.  For information about how you might assist, contact Ken Williams, Lead Pastor.
