The Atlanta Hawks & Grace

The Hawks are dominating the Bucks tonight and I’m watching it from club seats a few rows from the floor. They are sweet seats! Great view. Padded leather. Unbelievable food (especially the dessert bar). And best of all… no waiting in the women’s bathroom. (Shawna added that comment.)

I didn’t do anything to get these seats. They cost $135 each, but I didn’t pay a dime. I just showed up, told them my name and they gave me the tickets.

A member of our church got us the seats. He offered. He chose the seats. He lined it all up. All I had to do was say ‘yes’ and show up.

Tonight, I’m enjoying grace… undeserved favor. There’s a part of me that feels guilty, like I need to repay the guy who got me the tickets. I guess that’s my baggage, huh??? It’s hard for me to receive grace, but what can I do to repay him? Give him a special audience with me??? Not.

I’m sure you see the parallels between tonight and our journey with Jesus. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it

And yes, I’m writing my blog during the game. It’s a nerd thing…

  1. FREE!! Such an awesome word! Of course, what is free to us, always costs somebody something. Somebody paid for those seats (feel free to share information by the way :-) ), and Jesus certainly paid the price for our free grace. Think about it… grace is so amazing because we CANNOT earn or deserve it! If we could, it would make it cheap and ordinary (and the cross unnecessary). That is why so many people will miss out on grace. Their pride will not allow them to accept the fact that there is nothing they can do to win it. They are unable to bring themselves to the point of realizing their dependency on someone else, their helplessness and unworthiness. Their haughty human nature convinces them they must have some control or ability to improve their situation. After all, the world teaches that you are the master of your own destiny. I thank God for His amazing grace and the fact that I had nothing to do with it! It’s all because the blood of Jesus Christ! (That’s a great song by the way!) Grace and peace.

  2. Not too long ago a good friend of ours did Cindy’s hair. Our friend had already told Cindy that she wasn’t going to charge her anything to do her hair, but Cindy wrote her a check anyway and gave it to her, then less than two hours later our friend called Cindy and told her that she had torn up the check. Of course Cindy told her that she would send another to which our friend replied……….”don’t deny me the joy of the blessing.”

God wants us to be blessings to each other. Don’t deny the opportunity to give or receive the blessing. The blessing can obviously be financial, but it can be as simple as your time.
